Codes of conduct, also known as best practice guidelines, define the standards and values that care providers must adhere to, in order to deliver effective and compassionate care. In England, Skills for Health and Skills for Care supervise the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers. This Code of Conduct includes the following principles: - Be accountable by being prepared to answer for your actions or neglect. - Champion and protect the privacy, dignity, rights, health, and well-being of individuals using health and social care services and their caregivers at all times. - Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the provision of high-quality, safe, and compassionate healthcare, care, and support. - Communicate in a clear and efficient manner to promote the health, safety, and well-being of people using health and social care services and their caregivers. And finally, respect an individual's right to confidentiality. The Care Act's guiding principle places the well-being of an individual at the heart of all care and support. As a care provider, you must strive to enhance the quality of healthcare, care, and support through continuous professional development. Upholding and promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion can significantly improve an individual's well-being. Discrimination is entirely unacceptable and should be challenged whenever encountered, be it in your own work or others'. Reflective practice, which involves contemplating your actions, the outcomes, and possible improvements for the future, can help you identify when your own values and beliefs lead to unfair treatment of others. If you observe instances of unfair treatment, it's essential to report this to your manager. They have the authority to intervene, address poor practice effectively, and promote positive change.
