We're going to be talking about some legislation and regulations that are included in moving and handling of objects and people. We are referring to LOLER, which stands for Lifting Operation and Lifting Equipment Regulations, and that is 1998. This covers any equipment that is used in moving people and in the provision of equipment and that all equipment should have a thorough examination before use. All equipment should be regularly monitored and under LOLER, that would be every six months or if the piece of equipment has been jeopardized in any way, which would mean that some fault has occurred and then that would mean it would need to be reassessed to ensure it is back to working order. PUWER, which is Provision and Use of Workplace Equipment Regulations. Now under PUWER, again, it covers mainly topics around all types of equipment that is used to work, that is safe, stable and is regularly inspected. That also anybody using it, and this qualifies under both LOLER and PUWER, is that they are correctly trained, that they have enough information and supervision in the use of the equipment. When using anything to do with manual handling, operations or regulations, we would use LOLER and PUWER as two of the main regulations that will cover all necessary stuff while we are working. Another piece of legislation that we have to take consideration, obviously, Health and Social Care Act, Regulated Activities, Regulation 12. And within that, this talks about safe care and treatment of individuals who may need any form of moving and positioning, medication or any other relevant to their actual care. Within this, we are just making sure that we are making all the required standards and again, this is ensuring that staff have adequate training and refresher training when necessary, that there is regular supervision and monitoring and maintenance of all equipment prior to use and the individuals have clearly stated care plans. Within that care plan will be manual handling risk assessments and those must be completed by competent and capable individuals who can ensure that all areas are covered within the risk assessments.
